Strong Second Half Leads Pacific Past UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's basketball team was defeated by Pacific, 80-65, Saturday night in a Big West Conference game at The Pavilion. The Aggies led 30-26 at the half, but the Tigers scored 54 points in the second half. Vince Oliver led UC Davis (9-12, 4-4 Big West) with a game-high 20 points and tied a career-high with six three-pointers. Chad Troyer led Pacific (12-7, 5-3 Big West) with 16 points.

Pacific led most of the first half and by as many as four points on three occasions before a strong close by UC Davis gave the host a six-point lead at the break. Trailing 24-20 with just under four minutes left in the half, the Aggies went on a 10-0 run. Mark Payne scored seven of his 13 points during the stretch, and Oliver capped it off with a trey with 13 seconds left to make it 30-24. Anthony Brown, who finished with 15, made a layup just before the half ended.

Oliver made a pair of threes in the first four minutes of the second half, and the Aggies led 37-31 at the 16:22 mark. The Tigers countered with a 16-0 run and led 47-37 with 11:30 to play. A minute later, the Aggies clawed back within 49-43 after an Oliver three-pointer.

From that point, UC Davis would score its next 17 points from the line while being held without a field goal for more than nine minutes. The Tigers' largest lead was 15.

Dominic Calegari added 11 points for the Aggies, and David Carter finished with 10.

Pacific shot 64 percent for the game and held UC Davis to 42 percent. The Tigers also outrebounded the Aggies, 31-17.

UC Davis is next in action Feb. 5 when begins a two-game road trip at Long Beach State.
