Aggies Look To Build On Winning Streak

DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's basketball team will host UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly as part of a two-game homestand this week at The Pavilion. The Aggies will take on the Gauchos Thursday at 7 p.m. at The Pavilion before facing Cal Poly Saturday at the same time. UC Davis will look to build on the momentum in generated last week with road wins at Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine. The winning streak has vaulted the Aggies into a tie for second-place in the Big West Conference.

UC Davis (8-10, 3-2) capped off its first Big West road sweep with an 88-85 victory at UC Irvine last Saturday. Vince Oliver led the Aggies with 24 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. UC Davis led by as many as 19 points in the first half and withstood a late rally by the Anteaters. Joe Harden and Dominic Calegari also finished in double figures with 16 points and 10 points, respectively. UC Davis shot better than 50 percent for the third straight game.

UC Santa Barbara enters the game with an 8-9 record overall and a 2-3 mark in the Big West. The Gauchos are coming off a 72-62 victory at Cal Poly on Saturday in their lone game of last week. Chris Devine leads UCSB with 14.1 points per game, and James Powell is averaging 11.9. The Gauchos have Big West wins against UC Irvine and Cal Poly with losses to Long Beach State, UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton.

UC Santa Barbara leads the all-time series, 13-4. The Gauchos swept last season's series and have won five of the past six games overall. The last UC Davis win was on Jan. 13, 2007, in Santa Barbara. UCSB has won the past three games at The Pavilion.

Cal Poly enters the week 5-13 overall and 0-5 in the Big West. The Mustangs, who play at Pacific on Thursday, are trying to snap a seven-game losing streak. Cal Poly leads the all-time series with UC Davis, 26-10. The Mustangs have won the past four meetings after the Aggies won the previous four.

UC Davis is currently in a four-way tie with Pacific, Cal State Northridge and UC Irvine for second place in the Big West. Long Beach State leads the conference with a 5-0 record. Cal State Northridge hosts Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday night.
