HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. -- Sophomore Alice Kim was 1 under on her back nine on Monday, lifting her to an even-par 72 and a tie for eighth place after the first round of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate being hosted by the University of Denver, and pacing the UC Davis women's golf team to eighth in the team standings.
The Aggies, coming off a fourth-place finish at the Dick McGuire Invitational at the University of New Mexico on Saturday, shot a 22-over 310 and are four shots behind seventh-place Oklahoma. The Aggies lead ninth-place Baylor by one.
The host Pioneers, behind a 5-under 67 from Stephanie Sherlock, are the only team under par after firing a 1-under 287, and have a six-shot advantage over San Jose State. Kentucky and Wyoming are tied for third, 15 shots off the pace.
Kim went 1 under and finished sixth at New Mexico and is off to a strong start at Denver. She was 3 over after a double-bogey on the par-4 10th but birdied three of her last seven holes, including two of the final three, to card an even round on the 6,605-yard Highlands Ranch Golf Club course.
Sophomore Chelsea Stelzmiller was 2 over on both the front and back nine on Monday, firing birdies on a pair of par-three holes, to help her shoot a 76 and move into a tie for 18th. Kimberly Johnson played her back nine even and finished with a 79 and is tied for 35th while sophomore Katie Sisler bogeyed her first four holes but was 1 under over her next five and ended with an 83 to tie for 60th.
