2008-09 UC Davis Schedule.
DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis has unveiled its 2008-09 men's basketball schedule, announced head coach Gary Stewart. The 30-game slate includes two tournaments, a contest at Arkansas, a home game as part of ESPNU BracketBusters as well as the 16-game Big West Conference schedule. The Aggies will play 13 games at The Pavilion and 17 games on the road. UC Davis will take on teams representing 10 conferences across the nation, including the Big 12, Conference USA and Southeastern Conference.
Five of the Aggies' non-conference games will be part of a pair of tournaments. UC Davis begins its season Nov. 14-16 at the World Vision Basketball Classic in Ames, Iowa. UC Davis begins the three-game tourney against host Iowa State before facing Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Loyola Marymount.
The Aggies will next take on Arkansas of the Southeastern Conference on Nov. 20 before returning home to face Portland on Nov. 23. Up next is the USA Basketball Classic on Nov. 28-29 in Mobile, Ala. UC Davis will take on Tulane in the tournament's first round before playing either host South Alabama or Maine in the final game of the tournament. What will be a three-game road stretch concludes Dec. 3 with a Causeway Cup battle at Sacramento State.
The next home game for UC Davis is Dec. 6 when it hosts Cal State Bakersfield. The Aggies return to action nine days later to begin a two-game road trip in South Carolina consisting of contests at The Citadel and Presbyterian. Home games against Loyola (Md.) on Dec. 21 and Dartmouth on Dec. 30 conclude the bulk of the team's non-conference play prior to the start of the Big West slate. The remaining non-conference game for the Aggies will be played on Feb. 21 against a yet to be determined opponent as part of the annual ESPNU BracketBusters.
"We are enthusiastically looking forward to the upcoming season," said Stewart. "The schedule is very challenging. We have nine games against opponents who won 20 or more games a year ago. I also anticipate the Big West being extremely balanced in 2008-09. I`m confident our students, alumni and Aggie community will enjoy watching our team compete against such diverse competition."
Prior to the season opener, UC Davis will play two exhibitions at The Pavilion. The first is scheduled for Nov. 4 against Bethany followed by another Nov. 7 against Notre Dame de Namur.
