High Winds Hamper Round 2 At NCAA Championships

May 21, 2008

NCAA Championships Live Scoring

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - High winds cut short Wednesday's second round of the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships. Only half of the field of 24 teams completed their rounds at the University of New Mexico Championship Course. UC Davis, which had scheduled tee times in early afternoon, was one of the 12 teams unable to complete the round.

The Aggies, who entered the day tied for 13th after shooting a 298 in Tuesday's opening round, did not tee off until late afternoon. The initial delay was due to a suspension of play at 1:10 p.m. MDT, which began minutes before the first Aggie was scheduled to tee off. Following the resumption of play at 3:15 p.m., all five Aggies began their rounds. The action lasted less than two hours as high winds once again forced the suspension of play for the day.

In relation to par, UC Davis remains tied for 13th at 24-over for the tournament. However, only five teams in front of the Aggies completed the second round.

Bryana Gregory saw the most action on the course for UC Davis as she finished five holes before play was suspended. Chelsea Stelzmiller, who shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday, completed just one hole on Wednesday.

Second round play is scheduled to resume Thursday at 7 a.m. The third round will follow with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.
