Nine UC Davis student-athletes have been named to the 2007-08 Big West Academic All-Conference team for the winter season, it was announced Tuesday by the conference office. The Aggies men's swimming and diving team had the most student-athletes honored with four while women's basketball and women's swimming and diving each had two. Men's basketball had one named to the team.
A total of 85 student-athletes earned the all-academic honors among the nine-team conference. To be eligible for such distinction, student-athletes must have maintained a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average or better, completed one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season (i.e. at least a sophomore academic standing), and competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
From the UC Davis men's swimming and diving team, senior Toki Burke, junior Michael Androus, and sophomores Russ Underwood and Tristan Kaiser were honored along with 25 others. Pacific and UC Irvine each had eight on the list to lead the way.
Women's swimming and diving had the most overall honorees as a total of 30 student-athletes earned distinctions. Senior Krysta Chaldekas and sophomore Heidi Kucera represented UC Davis. UC Santa Barbara had 11 on the team, which was the top of any team during the winter season.
In women's basketball, junior Haylee Donaghe and senior Jessica Campbell were the two Aggies to receive the distinction. Long Beach State had seven players on the 20-person team.
Junior Kyle Brucculeri was the lone representative for the Aggie men's basketball team. He was one of only seven players to earn the distinction. No school had more than one student-athlete honored in the sport.
The 2007-08 season is the first academic year in which UC Davis is an official member of the Big West Conference.
