Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - Freshman right-hander Brooke Turner allowed just two hits and fanned seven while junior right fielder Danielle Linke laced a two-run triple in the fourth inning, leading Long Beach State to a 4-0 win over UC Davis in a Big West Conference women's softball game at La Rue Field Sunday.

The Aggies fall to 15-22 for the season and 0-3 in conference play. The 49ers, ranked 20th in the March 25 USA Today/NFCA Division I poll, improves to 27-9 overall and remains unbeaten at 3-0 in Big West action.

Infielders Erin Emde and Julie Stauder had UC Davis' lone base hits in the loss. Emde singled to lead off the third inning, then Stauder roped a single down the left-field line in the fifth. Junior Jessica Hancock took the loss for the Aggies, allowing four hits and walking five in seven innings of work.

Long Beach State took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth when Jonae Perez and Brooke LaSage each reached on walks, then Linke drilled a short line drive that eluded the diving Sarah O'Neill. By the time, the Aggie outfielders could corral the ball, Linke stood safely at third with her sixth triple of the season.

LeSage lofted a sacrfice fly to left center in the sixth to extend the 49er lead to 3-0. In the seventh, designated player Ashley Levine led off with a double to right. Two batters later, center fielder Brianna Goad hit a sharp line drive off Hancock's torso. The Aggie pitcher knocked down the shot, but was unable to make a play at either home or first.

Turner did not allow any walks in her victory, improving to 16-4 and posting her 11th shutout of the year.

UC Davis returns to action on Tuesday for a non-conference home doubleheader against Fresno State.
