Live Results from UNLV Spring Invitational
BOULDER CITY, Colo. -- Junior Jee Park had four birdies on her way to a 1-under 71 during Monday's first round of the UNLV Spring Invitational and is tied for ninth, while the UC Davis women's golf team fired a 296 team score and is ninth at the 18-team tournament.
Park is joined in the top 20 by teammate Bryana Gregory who had a 73 and is tied for 19th. Freshmen Katie Sisler and Katie Sisler each shot 76's over the first 18 holes and are tied for 45th while sophomore Kimberly Johnson carded an 81 and is tied for 84th.
Host UNLV, paced by three players in the top 10, shot a 4-under 284 on Monday and holds a one-shot lead over Washington State, the only other team to break par on the 6,024-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club layout. UC Davis is just one shot behind 45th-ranked Indiana and three shots behind both No. 35 BYU and No. 45 Washington who are tied for sixth. Campbell and Idaho are both a shot back of the Aggies.
Park continued her strong spring season by posting birdies on her first two holes, stringing together five straight pars after that before making the turn at 1 under. At par after 14 holes, she later birdied her 17th hole - the par-3 No. 8 - to finish at 71.
Gregory had an up-and-down front nine before making six straight pars to begin her back nine on her way to a 73. Stelzmiller had three birdies and Sisler finished with two in their rounds while Johnson made her turn at just 2-over before finishing with an 81.
Kelly Nakashima of Idaho shot 68 and has a one-shot lead over four golfers in the individual standings.
The 54-hole tournament continues with 18 holes on Tuesday and Wednesday.
