Final Stats

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State picked up its first win of the season, Wednesday, with an 82-70 victory over visiting UC Davis at the Hornets Nest. Loren Leath scored 19 of his game-high 31 points in the first half as the Hornets raced out to a 38-27 halftime lead. Dominic Calegari led UC Davis with 15 points, and Mark Payne added 14.

Leath shot 5-for-7 from beyond the arc in the first half, helping Sacramento State to erase an early three-point deficit and build as much as a 13-point advantage late in the half. The decisive run came after the Aggies pulled within 22-19 on a Calegari dunk with 6:38 to go. The Hornets then went on a 12-3 blitz over the next 3:43 to make it a 34-22 lead.

The halftime deficit forced the Aggies to play catch-up for the remainder of the game. UC Davis was able to get as close as 43-35 in the opening minutes of the second half, but Sacramento State increased its lead to 64-44 at the 10:14 mark. The lead never fell below 10 points the rest of the way.

Ryan Silva was the third Aggie in double figures with 10 points to go along with a pair of three-pointers. Joe Harden was held to a season-low six points but hauled in a game-high 11 rebounds. Vince Oliver finished with nine points and five assists.

Sacramento State (1-5) shot 55 percent from the field while holding UC Davis (2-6) to just 36 percent. Justin Eller added 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Antonio Flaggs ended up with 11 points.

UC Davis is next in action Saturday when it hosts Cal State Bakersfield at 7 p.m.
