DAVIS, Calif. - Loyola College defeated UC Davis, 95-89, in a non-conference men's basketball game Sunday afternoon at The Pavilion. Joe Harden posted his third double-double for the Aggies with 20 points and 12 rebounds, but Loyola's Jamal Barney led all scorers with 23. The game was marked by plenty of free throw shooting as Loyola went 33-for-43 with UC Davis finishing 30-for-36.

Dominic Calegari added 18 points for UC Davis, and Mark Payne scored 16 while grabbing eight rebounds. The Greyhounds shot 48 percent from the field while the Aggies finished at 41 percent.

UC Davis shot 18-for-20 from the line in the first half to account for nearly half of its output in the first 20 minutes. Nine of the Aggies' first 12 points came from the line, and Calegari went 6-for-6 during that stretch. The junior scored nine of his points in the opening six minutes to help the Aggies jump out to a 17-11 lead at the 13:11 mark.

Loyola went on a 5-0 run to cut it to 17-16 before a Kyle Brucculeri trey was followed by a layup by Derek Oestreicher to allow the Aggies to regain a six-point advantage with 10:25 left in the half.

The Greyhounds countered with an 8-2 run to tie the game and eventually built a 44-37 lead late in the half. Harden made two free throws with 1:25 left to account for the final scoring of the half as the Aggies trailed 44-39 at the break.

Loyola extended its lead to 50-42 in the first two minutes of the second half and led 60-54 with 12 minutes remaining. That's when UC Davis when on a 9-0 run to take a 63-60 lead. Harden started it with a pair of free throws, and Adam Malik finished it with a three-pointer at the 9:18 mark.

The Greyhounds regained the lead with an 8-3 run to lead 68-66, but Ryan Silva connected for his second straight three-pointer with 7:29 remaining to put the Aggies in front 69-68. Loyola's Marquis Sullivan made a trey at the other end before Harden converted a three-point play to make it 72-71 UC Davis.

Loyola would regain an eight-point lead as the result of a 10-2 run and led 82-74 with 3:10 to play. The Aggies were able to get as close as three in the closing moments but never got the ball with a chance to at least tie the game. Loyola scored its final 14 points from the free throw line.

UC Davis returns to action Dec. 30 when it hosts Dartmouth at 7 p.m. The game caps off a doubleheader with the women's basketball team, which hosts Seattle at 4:45 p.m.
