DAVIS, Calif. --- UC Davis seniors Dylan Curtis and Quincy Amarikwa were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Adidas NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Far West All-Region first team, the announcement came Wednesday afternoon. Curtis and Amarikwa become the first UC Davis men's soccer players to earn all-region honors at the D-I level.
"Both Quincy and Dylan definitely deserved first-team honors," said UC Davis head coach Dwayne Shaffer. "They've added so much to our program and their presence this season was huge. Both will also earn their degrees this year, and I am just extremely happy for them."
Curtis, a Pleasanton native, capped his most successful collegiate season by a tying a school record with 11 assists. He also added five goals for 21 points en route to earning Big West Conference Midfielder of the Year honors. Curtis finished his career with 17 assists, which ties him with Eli Carter for second all-time. In addition, Curtis was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN The Magazine first-team Academic All-Region and third-team All-Academic All-American. Curtis was also a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, which is presented annually to the best senior student-athlete in nine different sports.
"Dylan is a big, strong left-footed player," said Shaffer. "Rarely do you see a 6-2, 190-pound left winger at the college level. I thought he was the best midfielder I've seen all season."
Amarikwa, a native of Bakersfield, earned Big West Offensive Player of the Year honors following the best offensive season of his career. Amarikwa finished as the conference leader in goals scored (15) and was second in points (31). Both are career highs and put him into the top five on the UC Davis career list. Amarikwa also led conference players with two Big West Player of the Week honors and two national team of the week accolades. He also became the first Aggie to receive national player of the week honors on Oct. 13. Amarikwa was recently named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Teams of the Season, which is their equivalent of an All-America team.
"Quincy has had three outstanding years as a striker," said Shaffer. "This season everything just came together and he scored 15 goals. In my opinion he is the most dominate striker on the West Coast."
The duo are the first Aggies to earn all-region honors since the 2003 season. They also become eligible for All-America honors, which will be announced following this weekend's College Cup.
UC Davis earned a No. 1 ranking in the Far West Region this season for the first time in program history. They spent most of the year at No. 2 before finishing fifth and earning their second consecutive berth into the NCAA tournament where they advanced to the second round.
