UC Davis To Host Portland In Home Opener

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis will host Portland Sunday afternoon in its home opener at The Pavilion. The game tips at 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on KFSG 1690-AM. It can also be heard by logging onto www.ucdavisaggies.com. The Aggies enter the game 1-3 while the Pilots come in with a 2-1 record.

UC Davis is coming off a 68-59 loss at Arkansas on Thursday. The Razorbacks led by as many as 17 points in the first half and 15 in the second half before the Aggies closed within four. Joe Harden led UC Davis with 16 points to go along with seven rebounds. Mark Payne added 11 points and a game-high nine assists. Harden leads the Aggies with 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.

Portland enters the game with a 2-1 record and is coming off a 77-58 victory over Yale on Friday. The Pilots are 2-0 at home and 0-1 on the road. Nik Raivio leads the Pilots with 18.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Robin Smeulders is averaging 16.0 ppg.

This is the second meeting between UC Davis and Portland. The Pilots won the first meeting, 76-72, on Nov. 19, 2006, in Portland. Vince Oliver and David Carter each led the Aggies with 12 points in the game.

UC Davis is 4-1 in home openers during the Gary Stewart era and has won its past two openers at The Pavilion.
