DAVIS, Calif. --- It was announced Wednesday morning by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) that UC Davis senior midfielder Dylan Curtis has earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America third-team honors. The announcement comes a day after the Big West Conference announced Curtis as its' Midfielder of the Year.
Curtis, a native of Pleasanton, becomes only the second Aggie soccer player to be named an academic All-American and the first since 2000 when Matt DeJong earned third-team honors.
In the best statistical season of his four-year playing career, Curtis tied for the conference lead with 10 assists and remains just one shy of the single season school record. He is also one assist shy of second on the all-time Aggie list. In addition, his assist total led the nation during the early part of the season and continues to rank him in the top 15. Curtis also tallied a career-high five goals and 20 points. He is also one of only 10 finalists for the prestigious Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, which is presented annually to the best all-around senior student-athlete in nine different sports.
UC Davis earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Division I Championship tournament for the second consecutive season. The 17th-ranked Aggies will host Denver on Saturday at 1 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale by calling 530-752-1915.
