BOULDER CITY, Nev. Buoyed by a 4-under 68 on Tuesday - her second consecutive sub-par round - UC Davis sophomore Chelsea Stelzmiller moved to 6 under overall and into seventh place at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown and helping the Aggie women's golf team move up to 13th place after two rounds.
Stelzmiller jumped five positions on the leaderboard after opening play at the 18-team tournament on Monday with a 70. She sits six shots off the lead held by Lisa McCloskey of Pepperdine who shot a 65 on Tuesday and is at 12-under 132. McCloskey leads Anya Alvarez of Washington and UNLV's Therese Koelbaek by two shots.
Stelzmiller posted the Aggies' lowest score for the second straight round. Sophomores Alice Kim and Katie Sisler each shot 2-over 74's and are tied for 46th and tied 53rd, respectively. Kim is at 3-over 147 while Sisler is one stroke back of that.
Senior Brittany Smith carded her second consecutive 76 and is tied for 76th at 8-over while senior Bryana Gregory had an 81 and is at 15-over.
UC Davis fired a team score of 292, a one-shot improvement from its opening-round 293 and is two shots behind 12th-place Indiana and two in front of 14th-place Colorado State.
Nineteenth-ranked Pepperdine rolled through the course on Tuesday with an 18-under 270 to break a first-place tie with No. 16 Louisville after the first round and assume a 12-shot lead over the Cardinals at 26-over 550. Fifth-ranked Oklahoma State is tied for third with Washington at 9-under 567.
The 54-hole tournament concludes at the 6,238-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club on Wednesday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Seven teams ranked among the top seven by Golfstat are competing in the three-day tournament.
