Box Score

Nov. 2, 2007

Final Stats

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Junior Quincy Amarikwa scored his fourth goal of the season in the 32nd minute and sophomore Chris Leer added his fifth score of the year eight minutes into the second half to lead UC Davis to a 2-1 victory over UC Riverside in a Big West Conference men's soccer game at UCR Soccer Stadium Friday afternoon.

The win gives the Aggies a season sweep of the Highlanders and pushes their win total against conference foes to 4-3-1, which gives them three more points in the hunt for the conference crown. It also improves their overall record to 9-4-2. The Highlanders fall to 4-5-6 overall and 1-3-4 in conference.

The Aggies held UC Riverside without a shot in the first half of play and outshot them 20-8 over the course of the game. Amarikwa scored in the 32nd minute off a rebound to put UC Davis up 1-0 at the half. Senior Nicholas Lind was credited with his team-leading fourth assist of the season as it was his shot Amarikwa redirected into the net.

Leer, who now sits second on the team with five goals and 12 points, tallied the eventual game-winning score in the 53rd minute as he took a touch pass and knocked it past Highlander goalkeeper Charles Alamo from about seven yards out.

Xavier Perez scored the only goal of the game for UCR in the 89th minute of the game off a pass from Scott Dailey. That was one of eight shots the Highlanders managed in the second half.

Brian Wickers relieved starter Ryan McCowan in the final 10 minutes of the contest and recorded two saves. Alamo had three saves for the Highlanders.

Despite the difference in shots, the Aggies only managed two more shots on goal, 5-3. UC Davis also held the corner kick advantage, 4-1.

A total of four yellow cards (two per team) were issued along with 11 fouls for UC Davis and 10 for UCR.

The Aggies cap their Southern California road trip on Sunday as they face-off with Cal State Northridge at noon.
