BERKELEY, Calif. - The UC Davis women's tennis team began its fall schedule Friday at the Cal Invitational. The Aggies sent junior Robin Guier and sophomore Jenna Kappel to the three-day competition as the tandem took part in both singles and doubles competition. The tournament is the first of three UC Davis will be represented in during the fall.
In the Gold Singles draw, Guier was defeated by San Francisco's Camile Pamart, 6-0, 7-5. Also in the round of 32, Fresno State's Tinesta Rowe defeated Kappel, 6-1, 6-2.
In consolation singles action, Kappel was defeated by San Francisco's Emma Taylor, 6-4, 6-0. Jessica Hoath of Saint Mary's posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Guier.
In the Gold Doubles, Guier and Kappel won their first match after the team of Femke Strijbis and Nienke Strijbis from Saint Mary's withdrew in the round of 16. The Aggie duo would later fall in the quarterfinals to Cal's Daron Moore and Nina Henkel, 8-1.
Kappel will face Pacific's Sasha Fisher Saturday in the White Consolation singles.
