GOLD RIVER, Calif. - Sacramento State claimed a 7-0 victory over UC Davis, Wednesday, at the Spare Time Indoor Tennis Center in Gold River. The two teams played singles first with the Hornets winning all six matches in straight sets. The Aggies posted a victory in doubles, but the Hornets were able to win the other two on their way to the shutout. Sacramento State entered the contest ranked No. 52 in the nation.

At No. 1 singles, Margarita Karnaukhova defeated Ally Muller, 6-1, 6-3. Luba Schifris was equally successful at No. 2, posting a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Robin Guier. Joyce Martinez Gutierrez and Cecilia Helland claimed victories at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, while Anastassia Lyssenko and Svetlana Pimenova did the same at No. 5 and No. 6.

In doubles, Guier and Muller disposed of Lyssenko and Irina Taranenko, 9-7, at No. 1.

The win was the fourth straight for Sacramento State, which improved to 12-5 overall.

"I thought today's match was good preparation for the weekend," said UC Davis head coach Bill Maze. "With all the rain we've had, it was good for us to at least get some swings in. It gives us a chance to be ready for our three matches this weekend."

UC Davis (3-13) is next in action April 7 when it begins a three-match stretch in Southern California with a contest at Cal State Fullerton. The Aggies face Long Beach State on Saturday and UC Riverside on Sunday.
