Aggies Fall To Red-Hot Matadors

April 12, 2006

STOCKTON, Calif. - Cal State Northridge defeated UC Davis, 4-0, in a match played Wednesday afternoon at the West Lane Racquet Club in Stockton. The teams played singles first and stopped the match once the victory was clinched. The contest was originally scheduled to take place at the Marya Welch Tennis Center on the UC Davis campus but was relocated due to the weather.

CSUN (13-5) won matches at No. 1 through 4. At No. 1, Silvia Gutierrez defeated Ally Muller, 6-2, 6-2. Kanykey Koichumanova posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Robin Guier, stopping Guier's two-match win streak at No. 2.

At No. 3, it was Canna Furuta claiming a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jenna Kappel while Ana Matijasevic held on to defeat Audrey Wingo, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 4. The matches at No. 5 and No. 6 featuring the Aggies' Nancy Mok and Jessica Harris did not finish.

"Cal State Northridge is a good team with talented players at the top and showed that today," said UC Davis head coach Bill Maze. "I thought Audrey Wingo played well in the second-to-last match of her career. Now, we look forward to Senior Day on Friday as we celebrate the careers of Audrey, Nancy Mok and Ally Muller."

UC Davis (4-16) will conclude its dual match play Friday afternoon when it hosts San Jose State at 2 p.m. at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
