March 5, 2006

Box Score

TULSA, Okla. - Tim Torres had a pair of RBI doubles to center field, off-setting home runs by the Aggies' Brandon Oliver and Michael Hernandez, as Oral Roberts completed a weekend sweep over visiting UC Davis with an 8-4 nonconference baseball victory on Sunday afternon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

The Aggies' record was evened at 8-8 with the loss while Oral Roberts improved to 8-3. Sean Jarrett scattered eight hits over six innings to earn the win for the Golden Eagles, moving his record to 2-0. Vince DeCoito allowed three runs in three innings and suffered the loss, falling to 1-2.

Matt Dempsey had three singles, while Oliver, Tyler LaTorre and Lukas Kirby each had two hits for the Aggies, who matched Oral Roberts with 13 in the game. UC Davis, which trailed 3-2 after three innings, was behind 6-2 going into the eighth but cut the lead to 6-4 before Oral Roberts scored two times in its half of the frame to re-extend its lead to four runs, 8-4.

Torres hit his first run-scoring double in the first inning, giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. UC Davis tied the game in its next at-bat when Dempsey singled up the middle, scoring Hernandez.

A single by catcher Brian Agualiar and a double by Travid DeBondt to open the Golden Eagles' second inning preceded a one-out, RBI single through the left side by Patrick Warfle and a run-scoring infield single by Brendan Duffy that gave Oral Roberts a 3-1 lead. Oliver's first home run of the year led off the third inning and made it 3-2.

Trailing 6-2, UC Davis battled back into the game with a two-run eighth. Designated hitter Jimmy Goetz singled in LaTorre, who had doubled, before Hernandez had a two-out homer. But the Golden Eagles answered off reliever David Treat in the bottom half of the inning when Andy Bouchie singled through the left side to score Jesse Kahaulelio and Duffy.

That helped make a winner of Jarrett, who struck out four and walked just one before being relieved by Erik Crichton in the seventh. DeCoito surrendered six hits and three runs in three innings for UC Davis before giving way to Andy Boas who pitched the fourth through sixth innings, allowing two runs.

Zach Shutts gave up one run during the seventh inning while Treat allowed one in the eighth.

Oliver joined LaTorre with a double while Hernandez's homer was his team-leading third. Torres had his second RBI double in the fifth inning.

UC Davis, which was playing its first games on the road after opening the year with 13 straight games at home, return to Dobbins Stadium on Tuesday to host Nevada. First pitch is 2 p.m.
