SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The UC Davis women's tennis team completed its two-match road swing Sunday with a 6-1 loss at Cal Poly. The Mustangs won two of three doubles matches before taking five of six in singles. Three of the singles matches went three sets, and Kaitlin Callan picked up her first victory in dual match play.

Robin Guier and Ally Muller picked up the Aggies' lone win in doubles with an 8-6 victory over Danon Beatty and Samantha Waller at no. 1. The Mustangs won at no. 2 and no. 3 as they took the first point of the day.

In singles, Samantha Waller posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Guier at no. 1. The only other straight-sets victory for Cal Poly came at no. 3. At no. 2, Muller was defeated by Beatty, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. Jenna Kappel also went three sets in her match at no. 4 against Sheila Lewis before falling 6-1, 6-7, 6-2. Another three-setter came at no. 5 where Maria Malec outlasted Nancy Mok, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.

At no. 6, it was Callan who disposed of Shannon Brady, 7-6, 6-4, to account for the lone point of the day for UC Davis (1-9).

"We were very encouraged by our play this weekend," said Muller. "We showed a marked improvement over Saturday. Three of the matches went three sets so it could have gone either way. We're now looking forward to next weekend's homestand."

UC Davis next faces UC Irvine March 11 in the first of three straight matches at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. Doubles action is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
