SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara cruised past visiting UC Davis, 7-0, in women's tennis action Saturday in Santa Barbara. The Gauchos (8-4) won all three doubles matches before winning six in singles, all in straight sets.
In doubles, Andrea Pintar and Charlotte Scatliffe defeated Robin Guier and Ally Muller, 8-4, at no. 1. UCSB's Chelsea Glynn and Marielle Gruenig, at no. 2, defeated Nancy Mok and Audrey Wingo, 8-0. At no. 3, it was Leslie Damion and Mio Fukushima claiming an 8-2 victory over Jessica Harris and Jenna Kappel. In singles, Gruenig, Glynn, Pintar, Scatliffe, Damion and Fukushima all posted victories in no. 1-6, respectively.
"UC Santa Barbara was a tough team today," said UC Davis assistant coach Sara Morenc. "Each match we played was challenging. The key for us is to refocus and look forward to Sunday's match against Cal Poly."
In three exhibition singles matches that did not count in the results of the match, UC Davis won two matches. Kaitlin Callan defeated Kristen Wilson, 8-5. Brittany Kausen defeated UCD's Emma Shapiro, 8-4, and Harris posted an 8-4 victory over Juliette Mutzke.
UC Davis (1-8) is next in action Sunday when it takes on Cal Poly. Doubles action is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m.
