UC Davis Defeats Hawaii, 4-2

March 27, 2006

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Despite a rain delay of nearly four hours, UC Davis picked up a 4-2 victory over host Hawaii Monday afternoon in Honolulu. The teams played singles first, and UC Davis won four of six matches to clinch the victory. The match was the first of two scheduled for the Aggies on the day as they are also slated to face Hawaii Pacific in a match rescheduled from Sunday due to rain.

Robin Guier, Jenna Kappel and Ally Muller helped UC Davis (3-11) to a quick 3-0 lead. Guier defeated Chloe Bihag, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2 for her second straight win. Kappel, a Honolulu native, posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4 over Samanta Cappella. Muller also won her second straight match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kana Aikawa at No. 1.

Leading 3-0, the Aggies clinched the win when Yuka Otaka outlasted Julia Sandborn, 7-6, 6-4 at No. 6. The Rainbow Wahine (1-16-1) had wins at No. 3 and No. 5 to account for their two points. The teams did not play doubles.

UC Davis is scheduled to face Hawaii Pacific Monday evening to close out its three-match road trip on Oahu.
