Final Stats
FULLERTON, Calif. - Bobby Brown scored 20 points and Justin Burns added 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead Cal State Fullerton past UC Davis, 81-63, Thursday night at Titan Gym. David Carter led the UC Davis attack with 19 points, and Rommel Marentez finished with 14. CSF shot 56 percent from the field and outrebounded the Aggies, 41-21.
Both teams shot well in the first half as CSF (14-12) sprinted out to a 39-29 halftime lead. The Titans shot 48 percent from the field while the Aggies held their own with 46 percent accuracy in the first 20 minutes. The difference in the half was the collection of missed shots as UC Davis (8-19) was outrebounded, 24-9.
In the second half, the Titans opened up a 46-35 lead when Frank Robinson made a three-pointer at the 15:32 mark. The Aggies responded with an 8-0 run as Marentez made a three-pointer and followed it up with a three-point play. A bucket by Carter with 13:44 left pulled UC Davis within 46-43.
The Titans came right back with an 8-0 run of their own to regain an 11-point lead. A three-point play by Carter with 11 minutes left cut the deficit to 56-49. That's as close as the Aggies would get as the Titans built as much as a 19-point lead with less than a minute to play.
A total of five Aggies finished in double figures. Phil Rasmussen scored 11 points, and Kyle Bucculeri posted 10. The Aggies shot 44 percent from the field and made five of their 15 three-point field goal attempts. UC Davis committed 17 turnovers and forced Cal State Fullerton into 22.
