BEAUMONT, Calif. -Danielle Cvitanov and Bryana Gregory each finished in a tie for third place and UC Davis posted the tournament's best round on Tuesday as the Aggie women's golf team jumped a spot to finish second at the Lady Braveheart Challenge, hosted by UC Riverside at the par 72, 6,162-yard Oak Valley Golf Course.
The Aggies, who shot a 325 in Monday's first round and were third, had three players post scores in the 70's on Tuesday as UC Davis carded a 307, the lowest second-round score of any of the 10 competing teams. That helped them overtake Santa Clara for second place in the event which was won by San Diego State.
The Aztecs shot 309 on Tuesday to finish the 36-hole event with a combined score of 624. UC Davis was second at 632, Santa Clara was 13 shots behind the Aggies to place third and Cal Poly took fourth at 649.
Cal Poly's Jessica Huss rebounded from an 82 in the first round to fire a 1-under 71 over the final 18 holes and grab medalist honors by one shot over San Diego State's Heather MacRae.
Cvitanov and Gregory gave UC Davis two players in the top five. Cvitanov had a 76 on Tuesday while Gregory carded a 75 as both players completed play at 11-over 155. Jee Park, who also had 75 on Tuesday after opening with an 82, gave the Aggies another top 10 finish by taking ninth at 13-over. Kelsey Fischer shot 81 on Friday and tied for 32nd while Eryn Williams tied for 45th.
The Aggies' Brittany Smith, competing as an individual, tied for 23rd after shooting an 80 in the second round.
UC Davis, competing in its first varsity season, plays at the Fresno State Invitational on Feb. 27-28.
