DAVIS, Calif. - In its home opener, the UC Davis women's tennis team earned its first victory of the season, Friday, with a 7-0 win over visiting Sonoma State at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The Aggies (1-3) made quick work of the Seawolves (0-1) with a sweep in doubles before taking all six singles matches in straight sets.

The team of Robin Guier and Jenna Kappel got things started for UC Davis with an 8-1 victory at no. 2 doubles over SSU's Mallory Cantrell and Laura Robertson. Emma Shapiro and Audrey Wingo followed at no. 3 with an 8-0 victory over Erin Kramer and Amy Pipenbrink to clinch the doubles point and give UC Davis a 1-0 lead. Nancy Mok and Ally Muller were also victorious in doubles play.

The Aggies took a 2-0 lead in singles after Guier defeated Robertson at no. 2, 6-0, 6-1. Kappel made is 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kramer at no. 4. The Aggies clinched the win with Muller's 6-2, 6-0 victory over Becky Kiehn at no. 1, which made it 4-0. Other Aggie singles wins were posted by Yuka Otaka, Nancy Mok and Wingo. Jessica Harris and Shapiro each claimed exhibition wins.

"It's always good to get a win and build our confidence," said UC Davis head coach Bill Maze. "It's good preparation for what will be a challenging weekend for us."

UC Davis returns to action Saturday morning when it hosts San Francisco at 11:00 a.m. The Aggies will also take on Nevada Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
