LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- The UC Davis women's golf team improved its team score by 14 strokes, carding a 304 during Tuesday's second round to move up four places to 12th after 36 holes of the Prices "Give `Em Five"/New Mexico State University Invitational, hosted at the par-72, 6,319-yard NMSU Golf Course.
UC Davis was in 16th place entering the second round after shooting 318 on Monday but battled back and is tied with Colorado for 12th place in the 17-team tournament at 622. Missouri leads the 54-hole event at 18-over 594, just two shots ahead of host New Mexico State. Three other teams are within seven shots of the lead heading into the final round on Wednesday.
The Aggies are five strokes back of 11th-place Idaho with 18 holes to play.
Sophomore Bryana Gregory led the way for UC Davis on Tuesday, shooting a team-best even-par 72. She was tied for 26th after Monday but is now in the top 10, tied for ninth with five other players at 5-over 149.
Only two Aggies broke 80 on Monday but all five UC Davis players did so on Tuesday. Eryn Williams and Kimberly Johnson are tied for 51st at 157 after shooting 79 and 77, respectively, while Sydney Roughton is tied for 62nd after her 76. Jee Park tied for 74th after a 79.
Ellen Hoeper of Missouri is the only player under par after 36 holes. She owns a two-shot lead over Lehua Wise of New Mexico State at 2-under 142. Mandi Hedberg of Boise State is in third place at 1-over with two others tied for fourth at 2-over.
