LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Sophomore Bryana Gregory had a 77 during Monday's first round of the Prices "Give `Em Five"/New Mexico State University Invitational as UC Davis finished the first 18 holes of play with a team score of 318.
UC Davis had a rough start to the tournament, placing 16th of 17 teams in the 54-hole event which concludes on Wednesday. San Jose State shot a 296 to take the early lead in the tournament with Boise State a close second just three shots behind. Hawaii is in third at 301 while Missouri is fourth at 302.
The Aggies, who have enjoyed a strong fall season so far, had just two players break 80 on a day when no tournament player broke par. Gregory had a 38 on the front nine of the par 72, 6,319-yard course before shooting 39 on the back for her 77. She's tied for 26th in the individual standings.
Sophomore Eryn Williams had a team-best 36 over the first nine holes of the course, finishing the round with a 78 to tie for 36th. Freshman Kimberly Johnson is tied for 60th at 80, Sydney Roughton had an 83 and is tied for 73rd and sophomore Jee Park posted a 84 and is tied for 77th.
Jenelle Gomez of San Jose State, Ellen Hoeper of Missouri and Lehua Wise of New Mexico State are each tied for 1st after shooting par 72's over the first 18 holes.
The tournament features 18 holes each of the next two days.
