EAGLE, Idaho - Nebraska shot a team score of 296 in Tuesday's final round as the Cornhuskers broke away from Monday co-leader UC Davis to post an eight-shot victory over the Aggies at the Bronco Fall Invitational, hosted by Boise State at BanBury Golf Course.
UC Davis was led by junior Sydney Roughton who tied for second in the individual standings and by a fifth-place showing from sophomore Bryana Gregory. The Aggies posted their third top-four finish in as many tournaments this season.
The Aggies and Cornhuskers pulled away from the rest of the 17-team field on Monday, ending the first 36 holes in a first-place tie, 24 shots ahead of third-place Boise State. However, a 72 from Elli Brown - who tied Roughton for runner-up honors - and a 73 from medalist Kate White, helped Nebraska break the deadlock with defending champion UC Davis.
The Aggies had a team score of 304 in the final round, easily finishing in front of the host Broncos who were 17 shots behind UC Davis and took third. Brigham Young, which finished ahead of UC Davis at the Ron Moore Invitational in Denver two weeks ago, was fourth.
Roughton, a transfer from the University of San Francisco, was playing her first tournament for the Aggies and earned the team's highest finish of the season with her tie for second. Roughton had a 74 on Tuesday and finished at 3-over 216, just three shots behind White.
Gregory had her third straight top-10 finish with her fifth-place showing. She posted a 73 in the final round, the best score for the Aggies on the day, and finished at 220. Eryn Wiliams had a 79 and tied for 17th at 229. Freshman Kimberly Johnson tied for 28th after shooting 78 while sophomore Jee Park finished 34th.
UC Davis returns to action next week when they travel to the Prices "Give 'Em Five Fund"/New Mexico State Invitational next Monday through Wednesday.
