TEMPE, Ariz. - In its second match against a nationally-ranked opponent in as many days, the UC Davis women's tennis team was defeated by Arizona State, 7-0, Sunday morning. The no. 26 Sun Devils won all doubles and singles matches in shutting out the Aggies.

In doubles, ASU's Roxanne Clarke and Kady Pooler defeated Nancy Mok and Ally Muller, 8-3, at no. 1. The team of Rebecca Rankin and Laila Abdala defeated Emma Shapiro and Audrey Wingo at no. 3 while UCD's Jenna Kappel and Robin Guier were outlasted, 8-4, at no. 2 by Jessica Leitch and Wendy Pilecka.

In singles, the Sun Devils won all six matches in straight sets. Pooler defeated Muller at no. 1 by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Clarke was victorious at no.2 with a 6-3, 6-0 win against Guier. Pilecka defeated Kappel at no. 4, 6-3, 6-1, while Rankin, Abdala and Leitch all claimed 6-0, 6-1 wins at no. 3, 5 and 6, respectively.

The match came less than 24 hours after the Aggies faced no. 59 Arizona.

"We were happy with the way both of the matches went," said UC Davis assistant coach Sara Morenc. "We had never played Arizona and had faced Arizona State last year. Our goal against ASU was to win more total games than we did last year, and we accomplished that by winning 10 more games than we did last year."

UC Davis is next in action Feb. 4 when it takes on Pacific in Stockton. It will mark the third consecutive ranked opponent for the Aggies as the Tigers are currently ranked no. 63.
