CORVALLIS, Ore. - Danielle Cvitanov became the first UC Davis women's golfer to break par when she fired a 1-under 71 on Wednesday during the final round of the Oregon State Tournament, helping the Aggies to eighth place at their debut tournament.
UC Davis, which is playing its first season of varsity golf, finished with a team score of 307 on Wednesday at the 6,260-yard Trysting Tree Golf Club, ending the 54-hole event at 918, The Aggies, whose lineup is comprised of true freshmen, were three strokes back of seventh-place Idaho and seven shots ahead of ninth-place Nevada.
Brigham Young won the tournament by three strokes over Oregon, carding a three-round total of 891. Oregon State took third at 895 while Washington State was fourth at 904.
Cvitanov's 71 was the lowest round of the tournament for UC Davis which concluded Tuesday's 36 holes in eighth place. Her 1-under showing jumped her from a tie for 30th place after 36 holes to a tie for 14th after 54.
Jee Park, tied for ninth after 36 holes, finished alone in ninth after following her pair of 74's on Tuesday with a 3-over 75 on Wednesday. Brittany Smith had a 79 on Wednesday and tied for 43rd at 286, Kelsey Fischer had an 82 and Eryn Williams finished with an 83.
Cathyrn Bristow of Oregon posted a one-shot win after carding a 73 for the final 18 holes.
UC Davis returns to action at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Oct. 10-11.
