DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's basketball team won its second straight game Wednesday evening in an 81-63 victory over Bethany at The Pavilion in Davis, Calif. The Aggies led the entire way and were led by Kyle Brucculeri, who finished with a career-high 20 points. Rommel Marentez scored 19, and Vince Oliver posted 16. Thomas Juillerat also finished in double-figures with 14 points to go along with a career-high five steals. Bethany's Mack Stewart led all scorers with 29 points.
Both teams traded points early on, resulting in a 7-7 tie six minutes into the first half. That's when the Aggies went on an 11-0 run over the next four minutes and led 18-7 at the 10:13 mark. The stretch included a pair of buckets by Juillerat and a three-pointer by Brucculeri. UC Davis (3-7) would lead by as many as 18 points in the half before Bethany (3-10) closed the half on a 12-3 run. The Aggies led the Bruins, 36-27, at the break.
Bethany continued to peck away at the deficit to start the second half and trailed by just five points on a Stewart jumper at the 16:39 mark. That's as close as the Bruins would get as the Aggies quickly regained a double-digit lead with a 9-0 run over the next two minutes. An Oliver lay-up with 14:35 left in the game gave the Aggies a 47-33 advantage.
With UC Davis leading 60-45, the Bruins put together another push with a 7-0 run and trailed by eight with 7:21 remaining. That's as close as Bethany would get as the Aggies went on an 11-2 run and led 71-54 with 4:01 to play. UC Davis led by as many as 19 points in the final minute of play.
The Aggies shot a season-high 55 percent from the field and went 6-for-11 from beyond the arc for the second straight game. Brucculeri alone made five of his six attempts from long range.
