STANFORD, Calif. - Sophomore Robin Guier scored both a singles and doubles win to highlight UC Davis play at the first day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional women's tournament at Stanford Friday.
Guier came back from a 6-4 first-set loss to Oregon's Anna Leksinka to take a 6-2 win in the second set, then led 3-0 in the third set when Leksinka was forced to retire out of the first-round match. Guier went on face No. 5-seeded Cristina Visico of Cal in the second round. Guier won the first set 6-3, then lost an 8-6 tiebreaker in the second set before succumbing, 6-3, in the final set.
The Aggie sophomore also had her team's only doubles win, teaming with Audrey Wingo for an 8-1 victory over Kim Daniel and Flavia Miracle of Santa Clara. The Wingo/Guier team later lost to Washington State's Aleksandra Cekic and Marjolein SvandeVen, 8-2, in a second-round matchup.
Senior Ally Muller also claimed a singles win for UC Davis, beating Daniel by a 6-1, 6-1 final. Muller later fell to ninth-seeded Dominika Dieskova of Oregon in straight sets, losing 6-3, 6-1.
The ITA women's regional continues through Monday, October 24.
