MORAGA, Calif. - The tandem of Robin Guier and Ally Muller won back-to-back matches to advance to the semifinals of the top doubles flight, highlighting UC Davis action at the Saint Mary's Invitational women's collegiate tennis tournament Friday.

Guier and Muller beat Feline Charlot and Erin Young of the host Gaels in an 8-5 first-round contest, then took down Pacific's Vana Mrazovic and Jolanta Twarowska by an 8-4 final in their second-round match.

Guier also reached Saturday's quarterfinals of the Blue `A' singles bracket. She won by injury default over eighth-seeded Kelly Leathers of Santa Clara, then beat Saint Mary's Young in a 6-2, 6-3 second-round match.

Muller enjoyed a singles victory in the Blue flight, claiming a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over the Gaels' Kate Harden, before falling in straight sets to No. 7 Camile Pamart of San Francisco in her second-round match. Pamart won by a 7-5, 6-3 score.

Two other Aggie doubles teams posted first-day wins in the Red "B" draw. Emma Shapiro and Audrey Wingo edged Portland's Laura Leoni and Jackie Soltysik in a tiebreaker; and Yuka Otaka and Kaitlin Callan won in similar fashion against Sonoma State's Mallory Cantrell and Laura Robertson.

Like Guier, Wingo advanced to the quarterfinals of the Red "B" singles bracket. She earned a free pass upon the withdrawl of Santa Clara's Flavia Miracle, then enjoyed a 7-5, 7-5 win over Charlot in second-round action.

The Saint Mary's Invitational continues through Saturday and Sunday.
