BERKELEY, Calif. - Sophomore Robin Guier defeated San Francisco's Sarah Oudomvilay, 6-4, 6-3, in the first round of the Gold consolation bracket to highlight UC Davis action at the Cal Invitational women's collegiate tennis tournament Friday.
Guier suffered a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Caitlin Collins of North Carolina in the morning round of the Gold draw to move into the consolation rounds. She will face Cal's Jessica Shu at 11:45 a.m. Saturday morning.
Senior Ally Muller represented UC Davis in the Blue bracket, falling to sixth-seeded Rebecca Rankin of Arizona State by a 6-2, 6-2 final. Muller later fell in straight sets to Santa Clara's Erika Barnes in a 6-4, 6-3 decision.
Muller fell victim to Rankin twice on Friday. She and Guier lost their first-round doubles match to Rankin and Sabrina Capannolo by an 8-3 score. The Aggie tandem will take on No. 4 seed Suzi Fodor and Suzi Babos of Cal in the Gold consolation bracket on Saturday morning. Fodor and Babos were upset, 8-6, by Brigham Young's Dolly Chang and Lauren Jones.
The Cal Invitational continues through Sunday, October 2.
