ESPN2 To Broadcast NCAA Woman Of The Year Presentation

Nov. 30, 2004

The cable television network ESPN2 (a.k.a. "the Deuce") is scheduled to air the 2004 NCAA Woman of the Year awards dinner on Friday, December 3 at 1 p.m. PST (4 p.m. Eastern). The dinner, held in Indianapolis on October 31 this year, honored the 52 state winners and 10 finalists, from which UC Davis lacrosse player Kelly Albin was selected.

In past NCAA Woman of the Year ceremonies, ESPN2's broadcast featured brief highlight videos of each of the 10 finalist, depicting scenes of the honoree both in her chosen sport and around her respective campus. Albin's video was shot primarily by UC Davis Athletics' videographer Jim von Rummelhoff.

Now in its 14th year, the NCAA Woman of the Year program recognizes women student-athletes for their outstanding achievements in athletics, academics and community service. After selecting one student-athlete from each of the 50 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, the NCAA chose 10 finalists on September 17.

Albin is the fifth UC Davis student-athlete to advance to the top 10, and the third to capture the prestigious award. Track and field All-Americans Jamila Demby and Tanisha Silas won the honor in 1999 and 2002, respectively.

A three-year All-American for the Aggie lacrosse team, Albin also graduated magna cum laude in March 2004 with a degree in food science. She is now in her first year of a master's degree program at UC Davis.
