All-CCAA First and Second Teams

DAVIS, Calif. -

Third baseman Matt Kamigawachi and shortstop Ryan Coultas were named to the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association First Team for the second straight season, while outfielder Dustin Soderman and first baseman David Butterworth were also named to the first team, it was announced Wednesday.

Additionally, pitcher Trevor Thornton was named to the All-CCAA Second Team. The four players named to the first team were the most by any school.

Kamigawachi, a junior from Woodland, batted .325 for the regular season, leading the Aggies in hits for the second straight year with 67. He was the only player to start all 51 games while hitting a team-leading three triples, 11 doubles, 35 RBIs and 33 runs scored. His 15-game hitting streak (4/11 - 5/2) is an Aggie season-high.

Coultas, a sophomore from Ventura, finished the regular season with a .318 batting average, leading UC Davis with 20 doubles and second only to Butterworth with three home runs. The slick-fielding shortstop committed just 10 errors on the season, just two in his final 19 games (103 chances)

Soderman, a senior from Sacramento, was the Aggies' hottest hitter over the final month of the regular season. He batted .330 for the year, including a .400 average over the final 19 games. He set his career-highs for hits (59), runs (33), doubles (14) and RBIs (31).

Butterworth, a sophomore from Davis, batted .299 on the season, leading UC Davis in home runs with eight and RBIs with 39. He put together an 11-game hitting streak earlier in the season and along with Robby Tulk, led the team with 35 runs scored.

Thornton, a senior from Fairfield, posted a team-best 7-3 record on the season with a 3.09 ERA. Twice he was named CCAA Pitcher of the Week, the only player in the conference to receive the honor two times. He threw the Aggies' first one-hitter since the 1996 season with a complete-game shutout over Cal State Dominguez Hills on April 13.

UC Davis begins play in the CCAA Tournament Thursday evening when it faces host Chico State at 7pm. The Aggies bring a 31-20 overall record into the contest.
