DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis wide receiver Michael Oliva, who became the Aggies' career leader for receiving yards and touchdowns this season, and offensive tackle Forest Vance, have been named to the 2002 Associated Press Little All-America Third Team.
Oliva, a senior from Tuolomne, was recognized on the third team for the second consecutive year while Vance was honored for the first time. The AP Little All-America Teams honor players at the NCAA Division II, III and NAIA levels.
Oliva finished the season with 66 catches for 1,091 yards and 11 touchdowns, including catching 11 passes for 167 yards against Texas A&M-Kingsville in the second round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs on Nov. 30. He finished his career atop the Aggies' all-time charts for receiving touchdowns (37) and receiving yards (3,379). Oliva's 192 career catches are tied for second all-time at UC Davis.
Vance, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound junior from Colfax, started every game this season for UC Davis, which averaged 425.6 yards per game in total offense, including 247.0 ypg through the air. Vance was named to the D2Football.com All-America first team last week.
UC Davis finished the season with a 9-3 record and its seventh consecutive berth in the NCAA Playoffs.
