DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis softball team will travel south to Long Beach to play three games in the Wilson Invitational. The tournament begins on Friday, Feb. 17.
The Aggies will play Louisiana Monroe twice and Pac-12 foe Cal. UCD faces ULM on Friday, Feb. 17, at 3:30 PM and then returns to face the Warhawks on Saturday at 10 AM. The Ags close out tournament play against Cal at 12:30 PM.
5-1 START
UC Davis is off to its best start since 2019. That season the Aggies finished 39-14. This past weekend at the NorCal Kickoff, the Ags took down Causeway rival Sacramento State, Seattle, Pacific, Utah Valley and Santa Clara.
WALK-OFF HEROICS
The Aggies are off to a fast start thanks to some late-inning clutch play. Three of the five wins this past week came in walk-off fashion, including two in back-to-back games. The Ags downed Seattle and Pacific by identical 2-1 scores and both ended via walk-off. UCD needed eight innings to defeat Utah Valley, 5-4.
TOURNAMENT PREVIEW
UC Davis will be playing Louisiana Monroe for the first time in school history. The Warhawks enter the tournament with a 3-2 record. The Aggies nearly came all the way back from a 7-0 deficit to eventually fall to Cal, 9-8 last season. The Golden Bears enter the weekend with a 5-1 record.
NEXT TIME OUT
UC Davis will continue tournament play when they head to the Fresno State Classic for five games. The Aggies open tournament play against Idaho State on Friday, Feb. 24.
