DAVIS, Calif. — Four members of the UC Davis softball program have been honored for their work in the classroom, named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's All-America Scholar-Athlete honor roll for the 2017-18 academic year.
The total matches last year's Aggie list of honorees for the most in the program's Division I history, led by junior-to-be outfielder
Marissa Jauregui, who earned the award for the second consecutive season after posting a 3.92 GPA in international relations. Jauregui joins three-time award winner
Christa Castello as the only UC Davis student-athletes to have earned multiple honors from the NFCA during her career.
First-time Aggie honorees include junior-to-be
Alexis Villalobos, who posted a 3.59 GPA in psychology, junior-to-be
Lulu Gargicevich-Almeida, who posted a 3.61 GPA in sociology, and senior-to-be
Meghan Bradbury, who finished the year with a 3.75 GPA in human development.
All were part of a program that earned its second consecutive public recognition award from the NCAA for finishing among the top 10 percent of their respective sport in the most recent multiyear Academic Progress Rates. The softball team, along with six other UC Davis programs, finished with a perfect score of 1,000.
Honorees must carry a 3.5 grade point average or higher on a 4.0 scale to receive recognition from the NFCA. Since the organization began handing out the award following the 2013-14 academic year, 12 different Aggie student-athletes have been named to the honor roll a total of 15 times.
