DAVIS, Calif. — Fresh from the Big West Championships last weekend, UC Davis cross country will host the Doc Adams Invitational this Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Putah Creek Reserve. The men's 8K will race at 10:45 AM, and the women's 6K will be at 11:30 AM.
The Aggies will race four men and four women, and thus will not field a complete team for scoring this weekend. However, the meet is an opportunity for the younger runners to gain experience competing at the collegiate level.
"This year we will have a freshman focus for our team," said head coach Emma Petersen. "Wade Kiesow and Derek Lin have been improving over 8K through the season and I think they could really end their seasons on a high at this meet. It is always a big jump for freshman men to increase their racing distance by 3K from high school, so it takes a while to learn a good racing strategy. On the women's side, Anaya Ward and Marie Navarro will enjoy being more competitive in this field. Both have ran well throughout the season, but when you are always racing older girls it's hard to get to the front of the field."
Representing UC Davis this weekend will be freshmen Navarro, Ward, Lin, and Kiesow, along with juniors Tatjana Kunz, Fenn Hoppe, Julia Lemak, and Zachary Katzman, as well as redshirt freshman Anya Strum, who will be racing unattached. There will also be recent Aggie cross country alums on the course, with Nick Ratto and two-time All-Big West Conference honoree Trevor Hasted running under Strava TC.
"It is going to be good fun to host a meet right here on UC Davis Campus. We have a great course out at Putah Creek and the Doc Adams Invitational has been a staple of the UC Davis Cross Country program for many years now, so I am happy to carry on this tradition," Petersen said.
