DAVIS, Calif. —
Currently enjoying one of its best seasons on the field in the program's Division I history, the No. 16-ranked UC Davis men's soccer team has now been recognized for its work off the field, earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2017-18 school year, the organization announced on Thursday.
The Aggies were one of 289 men's programs across all divisions — and the only Big West Conference program on the men's side — to be recognized for their work in the classroom, part of a larger group that saw a total of 773 men's and women's teams honored for their academic success.
Honorees for the award are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all the student-athletes on the roster.
Nationally ranked for the fifth consecutive week — the program's longest run since a 10-week span during the 2008 regular season — the Aggies carry a 7-1-3 overall record into Saturday's Big West contest at CSUN, kicking off against the Matadors at 7 p.m. in Northridge, Calif.
UC Davis entered the week ranked No. 14 in the nation in the second RPI release of the season — a jump of 17 spots from its initial ranking of No. 31 in the country.
