MORAGA, Calif. — The Aggies displayed a dominant performance in singles and doubles on day one of the St. Mary's Fall Invite on Friday, with three doubles teams in the semifinals, and six singles players into the main draw round of 16.

All four doubles teams earned victories in their opening round of play, starting with David Goulak and Ivan Thamma, who defeated teams from San Francisco and Fresno State to move into the semifinals of the Men's A draw. The duo is now 4-1 in doubles play, and will face Lovedeep Singh and Max Nudell from Sonoma tomorrow. Also in the Men's A draw, Chethan Swanson and Daniel Landa scraped through a first round win, but fell to Stanford's Sam Turchetta and Jack Barber in the quarterfinals. In the Men's B draw, both teams remain undefeated and will play in the semifinals in the hopes of setting the stage for an all-Aggie final. Mitchell Iwahiro and Alex Scemanenco dispatched a team from Pacific, before narrowly beating Cal Poly 8-7(2). Dariush Jalali and Arjith Jayaraman were challenged in their opening round against Holy Names, but built momentum to take out 2018 Aggie Invite Men's B Doubles champions Kamran Khan and Santiago Hinojosa (Santa Clara) 8-2.

In singles action, six players earned a berth into their respective draw's round of 16. Landa posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Sonoma's Igor Pissarenko in the Men's B draw. Landa now leads the team in singles wins, with a 7-1 fall record so far. Also winning their singles matches in the Men's B draw are Scemanenco, Jalali, and Jayaraman, against opponents from Cal Poly, Sacramento State, and San Francisco, respectively. In the Men's A draw, Goulak defeated Dom Miller (Sacramento State) 6-1, 6-3, while Thamma went the distance in his match against Cambell Nakayama (Cal Poly), winning 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(2).

All doubles teams will be competing in one match at 9 AM Saturday morning, with two rounds of singles to follow starting at 10:30 AM.
