NOTES
TO RECAP: UC Davis (4-6) went 2-2 during the second leg of a two-week road trip, this time in Nebraska... The Aggies dispatched Omaha in a midweek five-set match, then went 1-3 at Nebraska's Ameritas Players Challenge... The key match of the weekend was arguably Saturday's five-setter against Georgia Tech... The Aggies won the first two sets and came back in the third to hold eight different match points... The Yellowjackets claimed the third, dominated the fourth, then recovered from an 11-9 deficit to win the fifth...UC Davis finished the weekend with a 3-0 sweep of South Florida that featured a season-high .292 and no aces allowed - the first time the latter has happened since the 2014 season opener at Rice.

Senior OH Kaylin Squyres earned all-tournament honors at the APC, tallying 50 kills and 36 digs... Adding the 24 kills and career-high 24 digs she had at Omaha, the 2014 All-Big West honoree averaged 4.62 kps and 3.75 dps in the week's four matches... Junior OH Allie Wegener was right behind her: 60 kills (3.75), a .253 average and 44 digs (2.75)... Wegener knocked down a career-high 28 kills in Wednesday's win against the Mavericks, a program best in the Big West era of Aggie volleyball... This tandem enjoyed very strong hitting numbers against what will likely be the highest-ranked opponent of 2015: Wegener hit 13-3-31 (.323) while Squyres added 12-4-27 (.296) at No. 5 Nebraska.

STAT RANKINGS: Squyres leads the Big West in total kills (173) while holding steady at No. 2 in kills per set (4.44)... Freshman Malia Bolko ranks third in digs (4.05) while sophomore Aima Eichie sits second in blocks (1.34)... Wegener shares second place in aces (0.39) with Hawai'i's McKenna Granato... As a team, UC Davis ranks second in blocks (2.62) and total points per set (17.2).

UP NEXT: After 10 road matches in three different states, the Aggies finally compete within California's boundaries... The week begins with Tuesday's "throwback" match in Hickey Gym... UC Davis played in Hickey (albeit the Lower gym) until the early 1990s, and competed in Upper Hickey for its final decade as a Division II program... However, renovations and scheduling conflicts have seen the Aggies play in the WPA-built gym on numerous occasions in the D-I era... The team then heads south for the Fresno State Classic Served By Deli Delicious, taking on Southern Utah, Portland and the host Bulldogs.

SACRAMENTO STATE (10-1) has won nine straight matches, with its lone loss being a four-setter vs. Cal Poly back on Aug. 29... The Hornets defeated two more Big West members - UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton - at last weekend's Bulldog Showdown in Fresno... Senior OH Sloan Lovett totaled 56 kills (3.77) in the four total wins, hitting a combined .333 in Saturday's wins over Fresno State and CSF... She leads Sac State with 3.41 kps with senior OH Lauren Kissell close behind at 3.35... Junior Lexie Skalbeck has 196 digs (4.78) while junior MB Madeline Cannon leads the net defense at 1.08 blocks per set.

SOUTHERN UTAH (8-2) swept Niagara and Charleston Southern while losing in three to Gonzaga at the Grand Canyon Classic over the weekend... Senior OH Madi Forsythe leads the Thunderbirds with 3.72 kps while her .258 average leads the left-side hitters... SUU averages 2.56 blocks as a team, thanks to OPP Ann Clappier (1.54) and MB Taylor Heine (1.11)... The T-Birds also perform well in the serving game, averaging 1.41 aces per set while only allowing 18 all season.

PORTLAND (8-1) is off to its best start in program history, having won last weekend's North Harbour Marriott Invitational with wins over St. Francis, Idaho and Cal Poly... Emily Liger earned Offensive MVP while Morgan Robinson was named Defensive MVP... Liger totaled 48 kills while hitting .448 and .464 against Idaho and St. Francis, respectively... Robinson posted dig totals of 13, 23 and 19 in the three wins.

FRESNO STATE (6-5) took three out of four at its own Bulldog Showdown, sweeping UC Riverside and taking four-set wins off Cal State Fullerton and Central Michigan... The Bulldogs spread their offense across three outside hitters: junior Aleisha Coates (2.83 kills per set), senior Zana Bowens (2.75) and sophomore Carly Scarbrough (2.72)... Coates and Scarbrough each earned all-tourney honors last weekend.

HEAD COACH DAN CONNERS:
"Obviously, we're trying to get better every day. Hopefully, we play better tomorrow than we did last weekend and we play better next weekend than we do tomorrow. We want to shore up our overall level of consistency. We give up too long of scoring runs. If we can side out sooner, we'll be more efficient and those will go away."

On the Georgia Tech match: "Hopefully, we learn that when we have opportunities, we have to take advantage of them. We weren't very clean that entire match and they got better as it went on. We need to be about playing to our level as often as possible. Unforced errors are still on the high side. We made 17 errors in that third set. Not all were unforced but that's outrageous. We have to clean that up. We play great volleyball when we're putting pressure on the other team. When we make errors, we're not putting the pressure on."

On Nebraska: "Kaylin and Allie were great that night. It was good to see because it gives them confidence at taking swings in all situations. They're capable of putting up big numbers, night in and night out. It's about being consistent and having that mentality, and they were in for a fight. I talked to the Nebraska coach after the match and he was very impressed. [Nebraska] knew we were setting them, and they kept putting balls away."
