Nov. 9, 2015 DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis freshman libero Malia Bolko garnered Big West Conference women's volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors for the period ending November 8, the league office announced Monday afternoon. This is the second such award of the year for Bolko, who won it back on October 5.
The Xceleration Volleyball and St. Patrick/St. Vincent High School alumna totaled 42 digs for a 5.25 per-set average in the Aggies' wins at UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly last weekend. She picked up 15 in Friday's sweep of the Gauchos, then barely missed her career high with 27 digs against the Mustangs. The latter total helped UC Davis compile 90 as a team, its best single-match performance in almost two full years.
Bolko also did not allow a single ace in 51 receptions for the weekend. She ranks third in the Big West at 4.16 digs per set, 4.47 in 13 league matches.
UC Davis returns home to host No. 7 Hawai'i as part of a doubleheader with men's basketball on Sunday. The Aggie-Wahine match starts at 1 p.m. at the Pavilion.
