Final Stats

DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis softball team closed out its Aggie Stampede with a 4-0 loss to No. 14 California Sunday afternoon at La Rue Field. It was the 10th and final game of the three-day tournament. Alex Holmes broke up the Golden Bears' no-hit bid in the seventh inning as UC Davis finished the tournament with a 2-1 record. Sunday's crowd of 433 set a season-high for attendance at La Rue Field.

Jamia Reid led off the first inning with a triple and came home on a one-out sacrifice fly to give Cal (28-6) an early 1-0 lead. It stayed that way until the fourth when Lindsey Ziegenhirt led off with a solo homer to increase the lead to 2-0. Cal doubled the margin in the sixth on a two-run shot by Vernae Sevilla to make it 4-0.

UC Davis (11-20) tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh as it stepped to the plate still seeking its first hit against Valerie Arioto. Elizabeth Santana led off and reached on a fielding error but was erased on a fielder's choice force-out on a grounder by Sarah Axelson. Holmes then singled through the left side to put runners on first and second with one out. Arioto pitched out of the inning with a force-out and strikeout.

UC Davis freshman hurler Dana Waldusky had another strong effort. This time, it came in relief as she pitched 5.1 innings and allowed just two earned runs with five hits and six strikeouts. It came one day after she threw a three-hit shutout against Saint Mary's. Marissa Araujo started the game and suffered the loss.

The action at the Aggie Stampede marked the end of most of the Aggies' non-conference schedule. UC Davis is next in action April 2 when it begins a three-game Big West Conference series at Cal State Northridge. It also starts a stretch where 21 of the team's final 24 games are against conference foes.
