Six Aggies Earn ACWPC All-Academic Honors

DAVIS, Calif. - Six UC Davis student-athletes earned Superior honors on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches' 2007 All-Academic Team, it was announced by Executive Director Mike Lewis Monday. Alphabetically, the Aggie honorees are freshman Ashley Chandler, sophomore Lindsay Kiyama, senior Amber Korner, freshman Heidi Kucera, junior Casie Mota and junior Madeline Stephenson.

This is the third straight honor for Mota, who holds a 3.61 grade-point average in her double major of pschology and Spanish. Korner, a senior goalkeeper majoring in neurobiology, physiology and behavior, garnered her second honor. Kiyama holds the team's highest GPA, totalling a 3.68 in biochemistry and molecular biology.

The ACWPC honors three tiers on its All-Academic roster. Student-athletes holding GPAs of better than 3.70 are designated as Outstanding, those with 3.41 to 3.70 fall into the Superior category and honorees from 3.20 to 3.40 earn Excellent distinction.

Additionally, UC Davis was one of 23 teams to earn All-Academic honors as overall squads. Macalester College, led by the 4.00 average of senior goalie Elena Bulat, posted the highest team average with a 3.400 cumulative GPA. The Aggies compiled a team GPA of 2.99.

UC Davis went 25-7, advanced to the Western Water Polo Association title game and finished No. 10 in the final national coaches' poll.
