Water Polo Hosts Alumni Game Saturday

Oct. 9, 2007

DAVIS, Calif. - The ninth-ranked UC Davis men's water polo team takes a break from competition for the October 13 weekend, instead hosting an exhibition game with its alumni on that Saturday. The game takes place at 9 a.m. at Schaal Aquatics Center, after which participants will attend the Aggie football game against Cal Poly.

Water polo alums interesting in playing in Saturday's contest may contact head coach Steve Doten at (530) 752-3452 or, more preferably, email him at sdoten@ucdavis.edu.

Among the recent Aggie standouts who have committed to playing are George Dingeldein and Patrick Jacobson, both of whom earned team MVP honors during Doten's tenure at the helm. Ryan Indart, a three-time All-WWPA honoree who helped UC Davis to an NCAA tournament berth, will also be in attendance. Other dignitaries include Tim Spangler, who played for Jerry Hinsdale in the late 1980s; and Doug Norton (1977-79), whose son Jake is currently a freshman for the Aggies.

UC Davis, which holds a 14-5 overall records, is coming off a solid performance in its own Aggie Shootout tournament during the previous weekend. The Aggies dispatched Harvard, 10-5, then played No. 2-ranked California to a 17-12 loss in Saturday's evening game. Highlighting the nightcap was a career-best six goals from junior two-meter Paul Wilson.

In Sunday's lone tournament contest, UC Davis clipped 16th-ranked Air Force by a 4-2 final, improving the Aggies' Western Water Polo Association record to 11-0. Senior goalkeeper Mike McGee posted six of his team's 18 steals, holding the Falcons scoreless for nearly 30 minutes of play.

The Aggies return to official action on October 19, taking on WWPA rivals UC San Diego and Loyola Marymount as part of a three-day Southern California road trip.
